New amendments in immigration by Western Australian – Simplified Pathways for Skilled Migrants

From July 1, 2023, the Western Australian (WA) Government has introduced changes to the eligibility criteria for the WA State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP).

  • Implement an invitation ranking system treating both Interstate and Overseas candidates equally.
  • Prioritize invitations for candidates with occupations crucial to WA’s industry sectors, according to the WA State nomination invitation ranking system.
  • Lessen employment requirements for invitees from WA’s building and construction sector (based on WA State nomination Occupation lists).
  • The expected start of invitation rounds for 2023-24 is August 2023.

In a bid to attract and retain skilled talent, Western Australia has introduced significant amendments to its immigration policies, ushering in simplified pathways for skilled migrants. These changes are poised to make the state an even more attractive destination for individuals with sought-after skills and expertise.

One of the key amendments involves the expansion of the State Nominated Migration Program. Under this program, skilled workers nominated by the Western Australian government are granted priority processing for their visa applications. This prioritization aims to expedite the immigration process for skilled individuals, reducing waiting times and ensuring that their contributions to the local economy are realized sooner.

Furthermore, Western Australia has broadened the list of eligible occupations for skilled migration. By including more professions, the state opens its doors to a wider pool of talent. This not only addresses specific skill shortages but also encourages a diverse range of skilled individuals to consider Western Australia as their new home.

Additionally, the state has simplified the application process, reducing red tape and administrative hurdles. The changes aim to make the immigration process smoother and more accessible for skilled migrants and their families.

These amendments reflect Western Australia's commitment to fostering economic growth and innovation by attracting skilled professionals. They not only make the state a more appealing destination for skilled migrants but also position it as a competitive player on the global stage in the race for talent. As Western Australia continues to evolve its immigration policies, it promises a brighter future for skilled migrants seeking new opportunities down under.
